Students from Roger Williams University, together with their Italian peers, took part in the 2nd Urban Design Workshop, thanks to the renewed collaboration arrangement between Università degli Studi di Firenze and ISI Florence’s architecture program.
The American and Italian students were given the opportunity to work in teams; eighteen working groups discussed topics concerning environmental sustainability and the relationship between contemporary architecture and the stratified nature of the historical urban context.
The participating students brought their design ideas to life with the drafting of a master plan, presented on the last day of the four-day workshop. Recently, selected projects were shown during a lecture by Professors Carlo Achilli and Paolo Di Nardo given in Bologna at the last international fair, CERSAIE 2013. This lecture was part of the fair’s rich cultural program Costruire, Abitare, Pensare (building, dwelling, thinking) focused on contemporary research in international architecture.
