Fall 2017 – Our RWU architecture students had a strong comeback from their midterm break this semester, as the first studio class consisted in the visit to a building site in Florence. They were able to see what had been explained in theory during class: construction techniques for load-bearing masonry walls, structural consolidation of wooden trusses with iron beams, and scaffolding, to mention only a few of the many architectural elements that were readily available for explanation by the director of the building site, ISI Florence Professor Carlo Achilli. A fundamental step in the career of architecture students is the opportunity of pre-professional experience, which bridges a purely academic vision with an essentially practical application of concepts learned in class.
