The weekend is here and you still have no plans- no problem! Studying abroad in Europe gives students the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to many different cities every week. After a couple of weeks of being here in Florence, we have traveled to many cities within Italy and outside of Italy. Generally, traveling requires the knowledge of a couple tips and tricks to have an easy trip! Here are a few:

  1. What to be aware of before and on the train

Taking the train is a very easy and accessible way to travel even last minute. The train station is located walking distance from most ISI Florence apartments. It’s easy to go on websites such as “Italo” and purchase a ticket for the day and time you wish to travel. Although in America on a train you can sit wherever you want, be sure when you get on the train here to sit in your assigned seat or you will be asked to move!

  1. Flying from Florence

The fastest and easiest airport to fly from is called Peretola (FLR). It is located close to the center of Florence, only about 30 minutes away. You do not need to leave that much time to spend in the airport. There is rarely ever a security line and it usually is not crowded. The one downfall about this airport is that the flights tend to get expensive. An easy alternative to this is flying from Pisa. There is a bus located at Santa Maria Novella that takes you directly to the airport. The bus is only an hour long and can save you a lot of money! The best way to look into all flights is using a website called Kiwi.com. This allows you to search multiple airports to find the cheapest and most convenient flight for you.

  1. Travel Guides

Planning, planning, planning! This is the key to having a successful trip abroad. Itineraries and guides help make your days go smoothly. If you know of anyone who has traveled abroad it is important to reach out to him or her and get any and all suggestions! Dinners, museums, attractions and more are all important to be aware of before you head off to that city.

With these quick tips, you might find that traveling throughout Europe will be much easier. Don’t forget to plan, manage, budget and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way here.
