Being anywhere for the first time can be intimidating. Florence is a great city to visit because it is ‘walk-able’. While you are here it is crucial to experience getting lost. Now, I am not talking about being out at 2:00 AM and having no idea where you are. I am talking about allowing yourself to go out for the day and having no plans as to where the final destination is.
Strolling around the city will give you a sense of excitement, as you round the next corner and find the cutest little pizza shop or happen to stumble across that store you have never been able to find. It is imperative to take the time to explore the city.
Forget the busy day filled with ‘to-dos’ and allow yourself to have first experiences. Surprise yourself and take a different street, wind around a new square instead of cutting straight through it. Discover a new market and buy that vegetable that looks like broccoli, even if you’re not quite sure what it actually is.
You could encounter your new favorite bookshop or discover a small leather shoe shop for custom-made boots. This city is bursting with uniqueness; one just needs to take the time to see all that it has to offer. Maybe you have not had a chance to check out the Boboli Gardens; well, do not put it off another day!
When in Florence, explore and have new experiences. Taking the long route and seeing something new will be worth the extra time it takes. Chances are you may not even know what it is you’re looking for until it’s found, but I promise you will uncover Florence.
