Description
This course is designed to introduce students to fundamental materials, techniques, and styles of oil painting. It is for both beginning art students, as well as for more advanced students who are new to the technique of oil painting. The course will present and demonstrate the basic materials used in oil painting, along with fundamentals of drawing and color theory. In the first part of the course, students will perform some pictorial methods, following the teacher’s real-time video lessons. Students will be introduced to skills necessary to create painted images while being immersed in the world of the Florentine landscape, urban sights and historical monuments.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Know the materials of art, in particular those relating to the oil technique. (supports, colors, binders, tools);
- Learn to use oil paints, their mixtures, the different application methods to obtain different effects. (In one go, wet on dry, spatula…);
- Distinguish primary, secondary, complementary colors and their combinations to obtain pictorial atmosphere;
- Paint respecting the classic procedural steps of oil painting. Know the ways to render surfaces, skies, water, flesh tones…etc)
- Recognize pictorial styles and pictorial material when looking at a painting).
