PSYCH 431 – Behavioral Science: the Art of Persuasion

Description Behavioural science studies how people behave and how the environment and social factors influence our decisions. This course will discuss social influence and persuasive communication and the role they play in how our thoughts, actions, and feelings can be changed, either actively or unconsciously, by the influence of others. We will examine both the major classic and contemporary theories of persuasion, key terms used, and ethical implications associated with persuasive attempts.

Objectives Upon completion of this course student should be able to:

      • Understand the basic theories of persuasion and social influence.
      • Critically evaluate persuasive attempts used in various contexts.
      • Apply theories of persuasion and social influence in a variety of settings.
