In June 2015 ISI offered an exciting new course in Fashion Journalism. The class focused on writing about style and design in Florence and enrolled students from various ISI partner universities. Professor Emeritus Mark Bernheim and his blogger assistant Alessandro Masetti worked with the group for 6 weeks on the acquisition of journalism skills, ‘tailoring’ their writing on Italian design. Most excitingly, the students spent a memorable day at the “Pitti Uomo 88” fashion show in Florence.
In the course’s official blog they wrote about the thousand clothes viewed and about young designers, stylists, and fashion bloggers met during the show.
The local newspaper “The Florentine” published the interviews students wrote for the Florence Fashion Week:
- Interview with stylist Alessia Caliendo
- Interview with fashion designer Filippo Disperati
- Interview with fashion designer Nicola Indelicato
- Interview with knitwear brand NŌ Artigiani Italiani
- Interview with jewel designer Rosh Mahtani
- Interview with the hat makers Super Duper Hats
- Interview with shoe designer Marco Laganà
- Interview with smartphone case designers Wood’d
- Interview with fashion designer Yojiro Kake
- Interview with bijoux designer Caterina Mariani
- Interview with milliner Eleonora Bruno
Students from various majors – including Communication, Journalism, Fine Arts, English, Marketing, and Public Relations – can enrol in the Fashion Journalism course in 2016. They will have the opportunity to gain important experience in the communication and business aspects of fashion promotion.
