ISI Florence is proud to announce the fall 2013 launch of our Ancient and Medieval History Program. Prof. Erika Bianchi, together with Prof. Carolina Megale, will lead and coordinate multimedia classroom lectures, fieldwork, lab activities, and interdisciplinary excursions including trips to Rome, Ravenna, Pompeii, and Naples. The ancient and medieval histories of past civilizations in Italy and around the Mediterranean will be brought to life before their eyes and in their hands. The program’s highlight is an exclusive two-week archeological dig in Fiesole, a renowned Etruscan-Roman site in the Florentine hills. But that’s not all! The Ancient and Medieval History track will integrate Geno 2.0 into a bioarchaeology session on the obscure origins of the Etruscans. Geno 2.0, for readers who have not yet heard of this exciting project, is a National Geographic research initiative, using cutting-edge technologies to analyze historical patterns in DNA to better understand our human genetic roots.
