Recent Publication Of Certosa Conference Proceedings

We are pleased to announce that the prestigious Italian publishing house Le Lettere has just published the proceedings of the conference on the late medieval Carthusian monastery of Galluzzo (in the suburbs of Florence) which our institute hosted at Palazzo Bargagli in June 2023.

That summer, ISI Florence worked with the Comunità di San Leolino and other US universities (Fordham, Gonzaga, and Vanderbilt) to organize an international conference on this renowned religious structure. The monastery was financed by the powerful Florentine merchant Niccolò Acciaiuoli (1310-1365) in the mid-fourteenth century.

This volume of conference proceedings (co-edited by ISI Florence director Stefano U. Baldassarri together with Alessandro Andreini, Susanna Barsella, Elsa Filosa, and Jason Houston) collects a dozen essays by both North American and Italian scholars, focusing on a wide range of topics pertaining to the Certosa del Galluzzo, such as art, architecture, history, literature, politics, and religion from the Middle Ages to the early XIX century.
