One of the best ways to understand a host country is to play a role in its life through community engagement; during the current Spring Semester thirty-five students have taken this opportunity.
Lexi Brenner and Carly Hanft (University of Maryland) are teaching assistants at the Florence Synagogue in Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. They learn Italian from the kids who in return learn English from the lessons centered around arts & crafts, reading, and singing.

Kelly Katsigris (University of Connecticut) is engaged with the community through “Angeli del Bello” at the Stibbert Park. Kelly is showing her love for the city of Florence by helping to clean up public gardens and streets.

Katherine Gurski (University of Connecticut) is volunteering with an organization called “I ragazzi di Sipario”. She is working with the restaurant staff members who have intellectual or sensory disabilities.
