On November 14-15, 2014 ISI Florence hosted an international conference on teaching the humanities today and their role as a means of social inclusion. Co-sponsored by Fondazione Nazionale Carlo Collodi, The European Union, ISI Florence, Accademia di Groppoli, the Tuscan Regional Government and the Municipality of Florence, this two-day symposium gathered specialists and scholars from the US and many European countries too (Denmark, England, France, Greece, Hungary, Poland, The Netherlands and, of course, Italy, including ISI Florence Director Stefano U. Baldassarri and Italian Literature Professor Diego Bertelli). Day one featured an eventful series of lectures on topics such as bilingual textbooks, computer-aided techniques to teach the humanities, music as a tool for integration in the school system, and design as a way to promote social change. Day two was devoted to workshops that put into practice and illustrated many of the ideas discussed by the lecturers.
