Is the American dream still relevant today? How do US citizens see it? What about Italians? And how about young Americans studying abroad in Florence? This March, students, professors, and staff of ISI Florence took a tour of American Dreamers, held at the contemporary art wing of Palazzo Strozzi (“Centro di Cultura Contemporanea Strozzina”). This exhibition brought together the work of eleven contemporary American artists and focuses on the “American dream” in contemporary culture. The visit, certainly, generated a cross-cultural dialogue and stimulated reflections on the students’ own sense of identity as Americans abroad and the “American dream” more generally.
Along with American Dreamers, Palazzo Strozzi is presenting Americans in Florence from March 3 until July 15. We’re glad to report that our student body has already shown a good deal of interest in this second exhibition.
