Alumna Zoe Langer Explores Dante and Medieval Texts Across Europe

Zoe Langer is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in Italian Studies at Brown University. She received her B.A. in Art History at UC Berkeley in 2009 and her M.Phil in Literature at the University of Cambridge in 2010. She is currently completing her doctoral thesis entitled “Making a Modern Classic: Authoring Dante’s Comedy in Print from 1500-1800.”

Zoe participated in the workshop “Translating the Past” on paleography, codicology and philology at ISI Florence in 2013. She continues to apply the valuable skills she learned in the workshop, studying medieval and Renaissance texts at archives and libraries throughout Europe. This year she is based in Florence, studying illustrated editions of Dante’s Comedy and other fascinating materials such as maps of Hell and portraits of the author in print.
