Shedding Light on Humanistic Manuscripts: Giovanna Murano’s Latest Research

A long-awaited and most useful book has just been published by Leo Olschki Editore (Florence). We are speaking of Giovanna Murano’s Florentine Humanistic Manuscripts. Revised and Enlarged List from Albinia C. de la Mare, “New Research” (1985).

Prefaced by such a distinguished expert as Professor Michael Reeve (University of Cambridge/Accademia dei Lincei), this detailed study by Giovanna Murano expands on Albinia de la Mare’s famous research, by adding a wealth of information on a host of scribes and hundreds of Renaissance manuscripts scattered around the world, from Aberdeen to Zurich (according to the list’s alphabetical order), including some 30 libraries in the US, many in the UK, and some in the Far East too.

On January 23rd, Stefano U. Baldassarri (Director, ISI Florence), Concetta Bianca (Professor Emeritus, Università di Firenze), and Francesca Gallori (Director, Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana) presented the book in the elegant Sala d’Elci, adjacent to the Michelangelo section of the Medicis’ library.
