OVERVIEW

At ISI Florence, students flourish in a safe, stimulating environment, enjoying a unique educational experience in a truly exceptional city. Students make full use of Florence as a living laboratory during their semester, summer, or academic year abroad. They walk the same medieval cobblestones as Dante, gaze upon the stunning masterpieces of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, and practice their Italian in the shadow of Brunelleschi’s dome. The Institute offers academic programs rooted in the liberal arts tradition—a fitting tribute to the birthplace of the Renaissance—and boasts a distinguished faculty and world-class student services team.

  • Fully accredited program
  • All courses taught in English
  • Designed for students of all majors with a wide range of academic choices

Transfer credit course equivalencies

Students attending the Institute from Consortium members and partner institutions will receive an ISI Florence grade report which will be included in their official transcript from their home institution. Check with your academic advisor or registrar to ensure that ISI Florence credits will transfer to your home institution, especially if you expect to satisfy any graduation requirements.

Student testimonial

The biggest advice I can give to future students is to think LOCAL. Shop at the fresh markets, spend time interacting with Florentine people, and most of all, utilize the Italian language! You will find it so much easier to be immersed in the culture when you make the effort to improve your language skills. In addition to this, seek out authentic and non-touristy activities (although those are great too). There are numerous hidden gems just a train, bus, or even a short walk outside of the city center! ISI does a fantastic job of listing local markets each month, but also ask around and discover all the local activities as well! I have felt that all of these make Florence feel like a true home.

What courses are for me?

You can freely choose from the curricular offerings and must enroll in a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 17 credits per semester, and include one course in the Italian language.

Or, design a program centered on a particular field of research by creating a thematic study plan! If interested in this option, contact our advisors who will work closely with your home institution to develop a customized curricular concentration in line with your unique needs and interests.
