Raw Portraits

ISI Florence Photography Professor Gloria Marco Munuera was awarded first place in the portrait category of the prestigious Spanish photography contest Quijotes 2017. Her winning series titled “Raw Potraits” is a collection of post-mortem samples of suspended animal parts commonly found at market counters. The full-color photographs represented on a black background, depict sophisticated and luxurious animal limbs, and result in a cynical display of beauty.

Since its first edition in 2006, AFOCAM (Asociación de Fotógrafos Profesionales de CLM) set out to create a unique photography contest, limiting participation to Spanish professional photographers. Since then, it has evolved into a leading national and international photography competition. Now in its 11th year, Quijotes 2017 has emerged as one of the leading Spanish photography contests of its kind. This year’s edition took place in Toledo, and received 775 submissions by talented Spanish, European, and international photographers. On November 18, more than two hundred photographers and influential guests attended the gala awards ceremony.
