ISI Florence Students Shine at Photography Competition

My Living Memory of Florence

In 2023, the Tuscan American Association (TAA) initiated its inaugural photography competition, drawing over 100 student submissions. Fast forward to this year, the event has grown, attracting 230 participants from various American Study Abroad Programs across Tuscany, with over 450 images submitted.

Professor Alessandro Galatoli, professional photographer, who teaches Street Photography at ISI Florence, expressed his excitement at his students’ achievements: “I am so happy to share the outstanding results of this year’s TAA Photographic Contest.”

ISI Florence Spring 2024 students Abigail Trautner from UConn, Michael Hayden, and Victoria Condello from Penn State, along with Miah Walker from the University of Richmond, had their works selected to be showcased among the 50 chosen images for the exhibition.

The Award Ceremony was held on April 15 at the Architecture Department of the University of Florence. Miah Walker clinched two awards, earning an Honorable Mention and the prestigious prize presented by James Hayman, a renowned photographer and film director. Hayman personally handpicked Miah’s photograph!
Reflecting on their accomplishments, Professor Galatoli remarked, “We should take immense pride in their achievements!”

The selected photographs will be auctioned off, with all proceeds dedicated to the Italian Red Cross. Additionally, the photos will be part of a printed book, further contributing to charitable endeavors.
