Graffiti lessons at ISI’s art studio

On January 8, 2014 the International Studies Institute hosted a training session on the ancient technique of graffito in its art studio on Via del Moro. Fifty participants joined the daylong lesson, which was divided in two parts. A short video explained the basic techniques of graffito. Participants studied the various stages of the work, from the preparation of the substrate to the finishing steps. Images of Florentine palaces and their facades, embellished with this decorative technique since the fourteenth century, were also shown to provide useful examples. In a second part of the lesson, each student was able to create a small piece of art, using a support and a drawing previously prepared by the staff. Professor and artist Tiziano Lucchesi, who teaches at ISI Florence and the Institute for Art and Restoration Palazzo Spinelli, held the lesson.
