Distinguished Minds in the Architecture Field

The Architecture Design Studio (Arch320) led by Arch. Franco Pisani presents the lecture series for the Spring 2016 semester.
Arch320 is the design studio of ISI Florence working with students from MUSOA (Marywood University School of Architecture) and UVA (University of Virginia School of Architecture).
This semester’s guests will be Filippo Caprioglio and Karl Daubman, invited to talk about their recent works and research, with a focus on context and form generation methods.

Filippo Caprioglio will give a talk titled “Design 360” on his most recent works. He is a Venetian architect who received his degree in Architecture at IUAV (Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia) and his Master’s in Architecture from Syracuse University.

Since 2002, he has taught in various schools both in Italy and abroad. In Fall 2008 the University of Maryland School of Architecture nominated him for the Kea Distinguished Professor Award. He has worked on projects with the Caprioglio Associati firm, in partnership with his father. Alongside architecture, he has a passion for industrial design that leads him to design lamps, chairs, and everyday objects for Italian and foreign companies.

Karl Daubmann will give a lecture titled “Processing Borromini” presenting his research about construction techniques and practices in light of new material innovation, advanced manufacturing, and quickly evolving industrial robotics. Karl, associate professor of architecture at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan and principal of DAUB (Design, Architecture, Urbanism, Building) is developing his research at the American Academy in Rome as the recipient of the Rome Prize for 2015-16.
