ISI FLORENCE PARTNERS
FAQ’S – Frequently Asked Questions

We ask all partners to review the FAQ page that has been shared with students and parents. It can be found here: https://isiflorence.org/covid-19-faqs

If there is anything on that page that is inconsistent with your university’s policies, please let us know. We want to ensure we are providing students with the proper information and with a unified message.

We have had a number of students asking questions about the program closure notice that was sent by their home university. In these instances we have informed all students to contact your offices directly so we did not provide incorrect information.

Presented here are some FAQs that may help you understand our policies and procedures and assist in answering questions from students.

Can you explain the refund policies?

Yes. At this midway point in the semester, ISI has a clear no refund policy for any student that withdraws for any portion of the program or in the event of cancellation (force majeure) but also agree to make a best effort to mitigate the inconvenience of the cancellation and recommence activity as soon as possible. Unfortunately there is no scenario that will allow students to return this semester, hence the following policies:

Tuition
No refund is available. But to help fulfill ISI’s and your university’s obligation to provide a credit-bearing courses this semester, and to students to mitigate issues concerning tuition, loss of credit, grades and transcripts, we have move all courses to an online platform as communicated.

Housing
No refund is available. Regarding housing, we have explained that we us a third-party agency to secure student apartments. They require that all rents be paid in full and in advance of the semester and issue no refunds under any circumstances. If a student leaves after the first day of arrival, ISI Florence must still pay the full semester fees. Therefore, once we secure an apartment for a confirmed applicant, we cannot cancel without such consequences, hence our stringent housing refund policies.

Course Travel & Activity Fees and Studio Fees
Refunds will be made. We will refund all activities, studio and lab fees for the second half of the semester. For those institutions that paid these fees directly to ISI behalf of the student, we will process refunds directly to the university. For fees paid directly to the Institute by students themselves, we will process the refunds directly to them. It will take 30-45days to process refunds.

All students must complete the form by the deadline or be considered to have abandoned the semester program and forfeited all academic credit and all travel/lab fee refunds. If you have not done so already, please complete THE WITHDRAWAL INFO FORM immediately.

What is the guidance on Summer Programs?

At this time, the Institute does not plan to cancel its summer programs or customized Maymesters. The Institute understands that current unknowns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, worldwide, may cause difficulties for international students seeking a short-term study visa or it may cause students and parents to hesitate spending 6 to 8 weeks in Italy. As of February 26th, ISI Florence is therefore prepared to:

  • Extend summer application deadlines to April 25th
  • Delay invoicing until May 1st
  • Handle Maymester application deadlines and invoices on a case-by-case basis
  • Push back the deadline for withdrawal penalties, allowing students to withdraw from the program without incurring fees until May 1st.

Should the Institute decide it is in the best interest of our students, staff, and faculty to close for the remainder of the spring semester, our team will continuously monitor the situation in close collaboration with Italy’s Health Ministry, AACUPI, and other relevant authorities. Should concerns stretch into April, we will update all partners with plans for the summer session.

If the crisis continues a decision will be made at least 30 days prior to the start of the summer session to either cancel the academic program and events or remain open.
