Description
Explore the world of fashion photography, where art, style, and storytelling come together. This course delves into the dynamic relationship between fashion, photography, and culture, providing both technical skills and conceptual insights. Through practical workshops, in-depth analysis, and hands-on projects, students will learn to craft compelling images that reflect personal creativity and the essence of fashion. We’ll cover lighting techniques, model direction, editorial and commercial styles, as well as the role of post-production. Students will thus develop an understanding of iconic fashion photography, its influence on global aesthetics, and how to create images that captivate, inspire, and convey a narrative. Students will also attend major fashion events in Italy.
This course aims to develop technical skills essential to fashion storytelling such as mastering lighting, composition, camera settings, and post-production techniques tailored to the unique needs of this field.
Students will explore the historical and cultural development of fashion photography and its role in shaping aesthetics and trends. Likewise, they will study the influential photographers and styles that have shaped Fashion Photography visual language.
The course will enable students to develop a unique photographic style that blends personal creativity with the essence of fashion. In doing so, they will cultivate skills in visual storytelling to craft narratives that captivate and inspire audience.
Students will gain confidence in art direction, including model interaction and styling scenes.
By experimenting with both editorial and commercial styles, the course is intended to develop students’ ability to produce work that aligns with industry standards and meets brand expectations.
Required equipment: Any digital recording device: smartphone or interchangeable lens camera.

By the end of this course, successful students should be able to:
- Master Technical Skills in Fashion Photography – Develop proficiency in essential photography techniques, including lighting, composition, camera settings, and post-production. All these skills are specifically tailored to the demands of fashion photography.
- Understand the Aesthetic and Historical Context of Fashion Photography – Gain insight into the evolution of fashion photography, recognizing key photographers, their styles, and the movements that have shaped this industry’s visual language.
- Create Compelling Visual Narratives to create a professional Fashion Photography Portfolio – Learn to construct storytelling through images, enhancing your ability to capture a mood, style, or brand essence that resonates with diverse audiences. Complete a series of assignments that will form a polished portfolio, showcasing technical expertise, creative vision, and an understanding of fashion visual culture.
- Develop Art Direction and Model Interaction Skills – Build confidence in directing models, styling scenes, and composing shots that effectively communicate a cohesive artistic vision.
- Experiment with Editorial and Commercial Styles – Understand the distinctions between editorial and commercial fashion photography, creating work that aligns with industry standards and brand expectations.
- Examine Fashion Photography’s Cultural and Ethical Dimensions – Discuss fashion photography’s role in shaping cultural narratives, with an emphasis on ethics, equity, diversity, inclusion and sustainability, fostering a responsible approach to creating impactful images.
