Our RWU architecture students had a strong comeback from fall break this semester, as the first studio class consisted in a visit to a local building site here in Florence. They were able to see what has been spoken of in theory during class: construction techniques for masonry load bearing walls, structural consolidation of wooden trusses with iron beams, scaffolding, just to mention a few of the architectural elements that were readily available to be explained by the director of the building site himself, ISI Florence Professor Carlo Achilli. For architecture students, a fundamental step in their career is the opportunity of pre-professional experience which bridges a purely academic vision with an essentially practical application of concepts learned in class.
